My son was murdered by a drunk driver who at the scene was very combative. He has been out on bail. This past December 8th was my son's first year to be Home. And yet, knowing that does not take the anger away that an ignorant drunk driver took him from me. My baby was just 14. It was no secret, he wanted to be in law enforcement. Twenty years is not alot, but it sure is alot better than what alot of DUI Murderers are getting now.
The "he will change", or "its a sign that he needs help", or "He will change"...what are the gonna change, will my son be back? Will rehab "really" make me feel safe out in the road? How do I know he won't relaps and put me and you in danger again?
I know one thing, I'm not willing to risk it! My baby left, but those that stayed behind suffer everyday. My 13 yr old lost a leg, the other broke his neck, my daughter will for ever his her big brother.
Please! It's time for a change!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sad to say but in 2006 my brother Jody Emerson was one 16-18,000 who died at the hands of a drunk driver. Jody was 25 years old, and was such a wonderful young man. The man who killed him will be released from prison on February 19, 2009. He was sentenced to 4 years, but of course only had to serve half of that due to our screwed up justice system. Tiffany is right, the victims do have to suffer from this not only once but twice, and that day of the sentencing hearing was like reliving the night of the crash all over again. It was devastating to my whole family, and this law needs to be changed. Thanks Tif for all of your hard work in getting this started. God bless you.

This is one change that needs to be supported by EVERYONE. Murdering someone using a motor vehicle is no different than shooting someone or stabbing them. A message needs to be sent to the drunk drivers of the world that their reckless behavior and indifference to human life will not be tolerated by society. The slaps on the wrists to the offenders and slaps in face to the surviors of murdered victims needs to stop. This is a great cause Tif and bless you for getting this going.

Theres no reason why those who kill in a drunk driving accident should be treated any different then if they were to go and murder someone with a gun or knife or any other kind of weapon besides a car......Those who choose to get behind the wheel of a car knowing that they have been drinking and change a family's life forever should suffer the consequences of what they did and give the victum and their family justice even though they can never be brought back......

My sister was hit by a drunk 2/23/2007 and died of her injuries 4 days later 2/27/2007 the woman who killed my sister got a year and some fines as well as a 5 year suspended license nothing compared to what my sister got at the age of 20 not to mention what we have to go through without her.
something has got to be done! 20 years minimum for death by DUI first offense or not is a GREAT IDEA!

My father was killed just over a year ago by a drunk driver, who only got 60 days for the DUI charge and had the aggravated vehicular homicide charge dismissed thanks to the incompetent state patrol who botched the initial investigation at the scene, then refused to take responsibility for their inaction.
My dad was minding his own business, driving a semi for work, just a few minutes into his trip and just a mile from work when this repeat DUI offender went left of center and caused the semi to roll and slam into a tree. Yet the offender walks around free for almost a year, then gets a tiny slap on the wrist.
DUI is a serious matter, and justice needs to come to those who harm others.

Someone who has been through this. Because of a drunk driver wrecked with my daughter in the car and now has TBI for the rest of her life, i think the sentence should even be more. but anything would be better than is what is now and that is nothing.

I agree with everything.People should pay for what they do to others.
Thats even in jail for the rest of there life. My grandpal was killed by a drunk drive in 1984,he died at the wreck,my grandmother layed in the hospital for 9 mos,and the guy who hit them walked away free, because he was home on leave from the army. My grandmother didnt know her husband died for 9 mos later. So it seems like the law hasnt changed since then.
